Hung Le Obituary

August 17, 2014 Service: August 23, 2014 With tears and heavy hearts, the family of Hung Cong Le began mourning his transition to his heavenly home on August 17, 2014. Hung was born in Hanoi Vietnam July 16, 1930. He met and married his loving wife, Tam, in December of 1970. A famously talented musician and bandleader, he and his wife gave it up to make a new life for their children. As refugees sponsored by the Calvin Christian Reform Church of Holland MI, they came to the United States in 1975 and started all over. Hung worked first at Chris-Craft Boats and then Herman Miller, where he later retired from in 1994. Hung leaves behind his loves in life: wife and dance partner Tam; their much loved grandchildren Drake, David, Kiernan, Kai, Tru, Hannah, Ellie, and Kameron who miss their Ong but hold on to their many memories of him; their children Tuan (Thuy) Le of Hoboken NJ, Tu (David McEvoy) Le of Madison WI, Khoi (Jeremy Svenson) Le of Los Angeles CA, and Dung (Rai) Le of Indianapolis IN; and a host of nieces and nephews. It has been said his passions in life were family, fishing and music. Often waking his children and later his grandchildren with four AM knocks on the door for the fishing trips he loved and enjoyed until the end he was able to share two of his joys in life at once! Hung loved music and expertly played the drums, piano, and accordion. His dedication to the Vietnamese United Methodist Church lasted until his passing and he shared his musical talents with the congregation until he could no longer play. In lieu of any donations, gifts, or flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Hung's name to the Vietnamese United Methodist Church located at 212 Bellevue Street Grand Rapids, MI 49548 or to the Alzheimer's Association by calling 800-272-3900 or on the web at http://act.alz.org/goto/hungcongle There will be a viewing at Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo Ave SE, Kentwood, MI 49508 from 5pm-8pm on Friday August 22nd. On Saturday August 23rd at the Vietnamese United Methodist Church located at 212 Bellevue Street Grand Rapids, MI 49548, an additional viewing will be held at 11:30am followed by a memorial service at 12:30pm.
