September 8, 2014 Service: September 11, 2014 Phillip Dale Nowak, age 84, of Grand Rapids, was called home to be in the loving embrace of his Lord on September 8, 2014. His family grieves his passing and in faith entrusts him to the Lord who was so dear to him and whom he served so faithfully throughout the years. Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Borghild Nowak and brother, Ken Nowak. Phil is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn of 32 years; his children Mary Lynn (Don) Mintz, Paul (Patti) Nowak, Scott (Cathy) Nowak and Amy (John) Moolenaar. His step-children, Jim (Patty) Farmer, Kim (Mark) Andrews and Jeff (Donna) Farmer; 22 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, his first wife Jeanne Nowak, sisters and brothers-in-law Carl (Mary Lou) Hanson, Donna Dorey, Helen (John) Wilson, Cliff (Barb) Foster and Art (Karen) Foster, loving cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Phil attended Manistee High School and graduated from Michigan State University in 1952. He was a wonderful and competent Food Service Director at Blodgett Hospital for over 25 years. He served as Lt. Colonel in the US Army Reserves for over 20 years, filled with a spirit of leadership and organization. He dedicated his time and talents to his church and community. Phil shared joyously with those in need, within and beyond his family. Visitation will be held Thursday, September 11 from 10-12pm with the funeral service following at 12:00pm at the Ofield Funeral Home.
