Shirley Jonker Obituary

December 15, 2014 Service: December 18, 2014 Shirley Kok Jonker, age 90, went to be with Jesus early on the morning of December 15th . She is united with her beloved husband, Jerry, and leaves behind a multitude of family that loves her dearly. Shirley was a woman who made a huge impact on this world. She was married to just one man and she loved him something fierce. She served her husband with selfless abandon and created an example for the generations that follow of what it means to be a godly wife. She had six children and she loved them deeply and served them tirelessly. While she preferred to be the behind the scene person making everyone's life a little easier, she was witty, charming, and able to make anyone's day just a little better with her kind smile. Any that knew her were blessed by her generous spirit and tenacious spunk. These last few years, her mind forgot many things, but who she is never changed. She was kind and content to the very core of her being, and she would still take your hand in hers and offer you the sweetest of smiles. She leaves behind a legacy of serving, faithfulness, and her love for Jesus to her 6 children Yvonne and Ken Bengelink, Dianne and John (deceased) Bennett, Jerry and Jan Jonker, Thomas and Betty Jonker, Short and Jim Holwerda, and Jim and Diane Jonker, 18 grandchildren and their spouses, and 34 great-grandchildren. We will be forever grateful to this amazing woman who quietly made a mark on this world and in our hearts. We love you, Mom; we love you, Nanna, and long for the time when we see your sweet smile again. Funeral services will be held at Thursday, December 18 at 11:00am at Raybrook Manor, 2121 Raybrook St. SE, Grand Rapids. Visitation will be held Wednesday 5-8pm at the Ofield Funeral Home, 4500 Kalamazoo SE, Grand Rapids and Thursday from 10-11am before the service at Raybrook Manor. Memorial contributions may be made to Rehoboth Christian School in Gallup, New Mexico.
