Lowell "Scott" Demarest, age 80, was born in Chattsworth, IL, to his parents Faye E. Demarest and Eleanor Doorenbos Demarest. He lived in various cities, as his father was a pastor, but mostly grew up in Cedar Springs, MI, where he attended and graduated high school. He served in the Vietnam War as a medic and returned to the US to attend and graduate from Michigan State University. He married Janice Zylstra in May of 1972, and moved to Grand Rapids where they raised three children: Timothy (Jaime) Demarest, Lisa (James) Kim, and Erica (Kris) VanOtteren. He was grandfather to eight grandchildren: Ethan, Morgan, and Abby Demarest; Isaac, Owen, and Eli Kim; and Kira and Cole VanOtteren. He spent most of his working life as a construction superintendent. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed listening to blues and Zydeco music from the New Orleans area, where he had encountered this type of music during his time working there. He attended church at Calvary Baptist in Grand Rapids, Calvary Church, and Brookside Christian Reformed Church. He is survived by brothers: Gaylen (Diane) Demarest and Scott (Shay) Demarest; and sister, Ruth (Ray) Edwards. He was preceded in death by his brother, Arlen Demarest. We thank the Lord for his steadfastness, love, and good care for his family. We deeply grieve his loss.
